Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will my child be outside most of the day?

    • Yes! Our students start their day inside for morning check-in before heading outside to learn and play. They remain outside until pick up time. We are outside in all weather, minus thunderstorms. When the weather drops below freezing, we try to stay out for at least an hour but go based off the students.

  • What should my child wear?

    • Anything they can play and get messy in.

  • What curriculum do you use for the preschool?

    • We use an emergent curriculum based on our students’ interests. Our play environment changes based on students’ needs and interests.

  • What curriculum does The Cottage use?

    • Currently, The Cottage uses The Good and the Beautiful, All About Reading, Horizon Math as well as teacher created lessons and book studies.

  • When will my child eat?

    • We follow a loose routine, so there is not a set lunch time. We allow our students to listen to their bodies and eat when they are hungry.

  • How do they learn if they just play?

    • Play is learning. Play fosters creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking in a fun and engaging way. Through play, children explore new concepts, experiment with ideas, and build essential skills like communication and cooperation. It allows them to learn by doing, making abstract ideas more tangible and relevant to their world. For further reading, https://learningthroughplay.com/
